Services and Resources
- There are several places to go for help and information concerning sexual assault. Please remember, if this happens to you, you are NOT alone. Trained professionals are available to help in many ways. Services are available on campus, locally, and online.
- Services to utilize on campus include, The Office of Counseling Services, University Police Department , and Health and Wellness Services. The Office of Counseling Services office has trained professionals qualified to provide support and resources to victims of sexual assault. Dr. Juliana Mills is the sexual assault counselor in the Office of Counseling Services.
- The University Police Department, located on Prince Drew St., can be reached at (757) 594-7777. They can also be contacted by the security call boxes found on campus. If you have been sexually assaulted, contact the police to ensure your safety, file an incident report, and even begin the steps to a legal investigation. They are a valuable resource in sexual assault cases and are already on campus.
- The Newport News Police Department is also in close proximity to campus. They are another invaluable resource to victims of sexual assault. Contact them by dialing 911.
- Riverside Regional Medical Center, located on the corner of J. Clyde Morris (Rt. 17) and Warwick Blvd. (Rt. 60) is an essential contact if you have been sexually assaulted. Your health and medical safety should never be over looked. For general information dial (757) 594-2000, or the Emergency-Trauma Center at (757) 594-2050.
- The Center for Sexual Assualt Survivors - They offer individual counseling and groups, community education/prevention and a 24hr crisis line. They are low cost. They are located at 1017 Todds Lane, Hampton, in the First United Church of Christ building. The office number is 838-1829. The crisis line number is 825-2591.
- Several Online Resources contain useful information and advice for coping with sexual assault.
