  • According to a study conducted by the National Victim Center, 1.3 women (age 18 and over) in the United States are raped each minute.  That translates to 78 per hour, 1,871 per day, or 683,000 per year.
  • Sexual Assault continues to represent the most rapidly growing violent crime in America .  It is estimated that as few as 10 percent of sexual assaults are reported to the police. (American Medical Association 2000).
  • Sixty-three percent of all sexual assaults reported to the police involve females under the age
    of 18.
  • Every minute of every day more than one woman is reported raped in this country.
  • Sexual assault occurs every 45 seconds.
  • 65% of sexual assaults occur at night, especially between midnight and 6:00 am.
  • 25% of the women who reported the rape did not report until over 24 hours after the rape occurred.
  • 86% of sexual assaults involving college students took place off-campus, often in a fraternity house or apartment.
  • In 55% of campus sexual assaults, the offender and/or the victim were drinking or using drugs.
  • 178 women are raped each hour in America.
  • 1,871 women in America are forcibly raped each day.
